Vehicle Technician (Level 3)Location: Erdington – Birmingham, UKJob Type: Full-time, PermanentSalary: £19.00 per hourAbout the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Level 3 Vehicle Technician to join our established automotive workshop. The role involves carrying out a wide range of service, maintenance, diagnostic, and repair work on modern vehicles, including petrol, diesel, and light commercial vehicles. The successful candidate will be confident working with both mechanical and electronic vehicle systems and capable of diagnosing faults accurately and efficiently.Key ResponsibilitiesCarry out scheduled servicing in line with manufacturer service schedulesPerform mechanical repairs including brakes, suspension, steering, exhausts, timing belts/chains, clutches, and engine componentsDiagnose and rectify faults across engine management, ABS, airbag (SRS), traction control, and electronic stability systemsIdentify and repair electrical faults including wiring, sensors, actuators, batteries, charging systems, and starter motorsUse manufacturer-level and aftermarket diagnostic equipment to interrogate vehicle ECUs, read fault codes, live data, and carry out system testsCarry out fault-finding using wiring diagrams, technical data, and guided diagnosticsReset service indicators and perform ECU coding/adaptations where requiredCarry out pre-MOT inspections, fault rectification, and MOT failure repairsConduct road tests before and after repairs to ensure issues are fully resolvedEnsure all repairs meet safety, quality, and compliance standardsAccurately document diagnostic findings, repair work completed, and parts usedSkills & Technical Experience RequiredNVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Light Vehicle Maintenance & RepairStrong experience diagnosing faults on modern vehiclesGood understanding of engine management systems, CAN bus networks, and vehicle electronicsConfident using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and diagnostic scanners (desirable)Ability to interpret live data and technical fault informationKnowledge of health & safety procedures and workshop best practiceAbility to work to efficiency targets without compromising qualityDesirable Technical SkillsMOT Tester qualificationHybrid and Electric Vehicle awareness or qualificationsExperience with dealer-level diagnostic platformsAir conditioning service and repair certificationWhat We OfferCompetitive salary depending on experience and technical abilityAccess to up-to-date diagnostic equipment and technical data systemsOngoing manufacturer and technical training opportunitiesClean, well-equipped workshop environmentStable, long-term employment with progression opportunities…
