Homelessness Officer

London | Hybrid Rate: £30.77 per hour (Umbrella) Inside IR35 Initial Contract Length: 3 Months Working Hours: 09:00 – 17:00 (36 hours per week)

Role summary

An experienced Homelessness Officer is required to support a Housing Services team within a local authority setting. This role will focus on delivering high-quality homelessness casework across prevention and relief duties, with a particular emphasis on working with families.

You will be responsible for managing a complex caseload, ensuring statutory duties are met in line with homelessness legislation and policies, while delivering a customer-focused service led by empathy, professionalism, and clear communication. This is a hybrid role requiring a mix of office-based and home working in line with service needs.

What you will do as a Homelessness Officer

– Undertake homelessness casework across prevention and relief duties, including working with families – Manage a caseload proactively with minimal supervision, progressing cases efficiently – Liaise with service users, colleagues, and partner agencies via email, telephone, and face-to-face – Accurately record and document all case activity using case management systems and spreadsheets – Ensure decisions and assessments comply with homelessness legislation, guidance, and policies – Independently manage workload and resolve queries in a fast-paced environment

What you will need as a Homelessness Officer

– Proven experience of homelessness casework (essential) – Experience working within homelessness services (essential) – Experience handling both prevention and relief duties – Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation and associated policies – Experience working with families in a housing or homelessness setting – Strong written and numerical skills – Experience using case management systems – Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to manage workload independently
