TheResearch and Innovation Department is continuing its exciting expansion. Wehave several research specialities and the Research Data and Informatics Team(R-DIT) is looking for a Junior Business Analyst. This Full time post will be based at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Assisting applicants with the application process for obtaining data and ensuring that they have sufficient and accurate information contained in accessrequests to give the Data Access Committee/R&I Manager the best opportunity to make a positive decision.

Working with the Data Managers to prepare information ready for review by the Data Access Committee.

Main duties of the job

Weare looking to recruit a proactive and self-motivated individual with a keeninterest in research to work within the Research Data and Informatics Team(R-DIT).

Thepost-holder will:

Workwith researchers to assist them in applying for data for their projects,including giving specialist advice on matters such as Data Protection 2018 andits GDPR, the National Data Opt-out and data de-identification.

Workwith researchers to find out their often-complex requirements for a dataproject, to identify which Trust systems data is available from, to know how to link data from multiple systems, to know how to transform data using techniquesof suppression and generalisation to de-identify data and to formalise thoserequirements into a data specification.

Workwith others to ensure that all necessary permissions are in place before anydata is released for use in research programmes.

Build and maintain a productive working relationshipwith colleagues across corporate and operational teams within the Trust andwith a wide variety of external stakeholders from academic and industrialbackgrounds.

Job responsibilities

TheBusiness Analyst will principally support the Data Manager in servicing requests for real-world data from researchers. The post holder will assist withinitial discussions with researchers and support them through the applicationprocess. They will work with theapplicant and Data Manager to create a specification that can be used toextract and de-identify the data for the project.

TheBusiness Analyst will also be required to support other administrativeactivities of the Research Data and Informatics Team (R-DIT).

Will work under the supervision ofthe Data Manager in providing an end-to-end service for providing data toresearchers.

Will work with the Data Manager toprepare information ready for review by the Data Access Committee.

Will engage with researchers ascustomers and endeavour to provide the best possible customer servicethroughout the lifetime of a project.

The post holder will respond toqueries regarding the use of Trust data for purposes other than direct patientcare using telephone, the shared team mailbox or in person.

Will ensure that that any advicegiven complies with Trust policies and statutory requirements for the use ofTrust data.

Will work closely with InformationGovernance to ensure that all work proposed complies with data protection lawsand regulations.

Will assist applicants with theapplication process for obtaining data and ensure that they have sufficient andaccurate information contained in them to give the Data AccessCommittee/R&I Manager the best opportunity to make a positive decision.

Will work with customers to producean accurate specification of their data extract requirements

Will engage with other Informaticsteams to obtain information about datasets that they hold and may be requiredfor a project

Will work along with Informaticscolleagues to improve data quality, reporting and extraction

Will assist other R-DIT members withtheir work activities as required according to their skills and abilities

Skills & behaviours

  • Advanced interpersonal & communication skills (verbal and non-verbal), with all levels of staff
  • Adaptable, able to cope with conflicting pressures
  • Ability to deal with conflicting opinions and resolve issues
  • Accurate and precise documentation
  • Understands implications of health and social care policies for the strategic development and delivery of informatics services

Experience

  • Experience in gathering requirements from users for IT projects
  • Experience of project management
  • Knowledge and appreciation of, and compliance with, the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information, and Caldicott.
  • Awareness of relational databases and Relational Database Management Systems, in particular, Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, and particularly MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Knowledge of data management
  • Knowledge of the speciality of clinical trials research.
  • Medical terminology, anatomy and epidemiology
  • Knowledge of current trends in Health research IT.

Qualifications

  • Good pass in GCSE English Language/Maths or demonstrable evidence of equivalent ability.
  • GCSE level or higher Computing/IT or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development, i.e. specialist IM&T training / study / research
