About the Role

The role sits in the newly created Development and Estates Team and will predominantly manage a number of construction projects in the investment programme. You will work within a multi‑skilled client team, with responsibilities for performance of other strands of the partnership contract, reporting directly to the Senior Construction Project Manager and liaising with Quantity Surveyors, Property Managers, Heads of Service, Directors and the Corporate Director to maximise and manage the Council’s projects to their full potential. We are looking for a person with excellent commercial skills and experience working with contractors and developers on construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage construction projects across sectors, including residential and commercial buildings.
  • Demonstrate robust construction contract knowledge and experience in risk management.
  • Implement cost control and cost management to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Ensure effective delivery of project outcomes for Trafford Council across a wide ranging programme, including leisure facilities, new residential homes and commercial estate.
  • Support the Council’s ambitious Investment Programme by reporting on performance and monitoring progress.
  • Build strong partner relationships with contractors and professional services organisations.
  • Demonstrate leadership, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Take responsibility for the performance of a significant element of high‑value contracts.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience within the construction sector.
  • Relevant degree.
  • Member of the Royal Institute Chartered Surveyors or equivalent construction‑based PM qualification.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Experience specifically around the housing sector.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, policy and legislation relating to construction.
