The Deputy Chief Operating Officer (DCOO) supports the Chief Operating Officer in the delivery of the Trust’s operational plan, with delegated responsibility for managing delivery of services across the organisation.

  • Oversee day‑to‑day operations, ensuring services are safe, fit for purpose and compliant with standards.
  • Ensure robust service planning and coordination across divisions.
  • Make decisions on escalation to the COO and other executives.
  • Partner with the COO, executive team and external partners within BNSSG to implement improvement and transformation projects.
  • Deputise for the COO at both Trust and system national levels.
  • Deliver against the performance portfolio, including national access standards for Urgent & Emergency Care, Planned Care (Referral to Treatment Times, Cancer Waiting Times, Diagnostic Waiting Times), theatre and outpatient efficiency, performance reporting, and trust‑wide capacity planning.
  • Maintain and update access policies in line with national guidance and provide staff training.
  • Lead implementation of the Trust’s Bed model and manage waiting list systems for elective and emergency care.
  • Lead Cancer Management and strategy implementation, including the annual peer review cycle.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and training for on‑call rota management.
  • Support delivery of savings for the Operations Directorate and improve financial information and budgetary control.
