Senior Insurance Executive – Captive Insurance (Malta)
Are you seeking the next step to grow your career within the captive insurance industry? Then read on!
Aon Insurance Managers (ACIM) are seeking a Senior Insurance Executive to join their team in Malta.
You will be responsible for the general insurance needs of captive undertakings, protected cell companies’ cells, and (re)insurance companies under management. This includes procedure setting, ensuring compliance with general regulation, and providing senior oversight across the insurance team and management of clients.
This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both in Malta and from our Birkirkara office.
What the day will look like
- Day‑to‑day administration and senior operational oversight of captive insurance, Protected Cell Companies (PCCs), cells and (re)insurance companies, ensuring service standards are consistently met across the client base.
- Co‑ordination and proactive internal and external follow‑up to obtain all required client documentation, including Know Your Customer (KYC) forms, insurance policies, reinsurance agreements, and endorsements.
- Review, validation and ongoing monitoring of claims activity, maintaining accurate claims documentation and loss registers, identifying issues or delays, and escalating where appropriate.
- Reconciliation of claims payments, insurance premiums, and reinsurance recoveries, ensuring accuracy and completeness at all times.
- Building and maintaining a strong working knowledge of Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) requirements across multiple territories, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure full compliance and accuracy of reporting.
- Acting as Champion on designated projects, coordinating internal and external stakeholders under the guidance of the Insurance Manager and senior insurance leadership.
- Preparation of timely and accurate insurance and claims reports for Board and/or Underwriting Committee meetings.
- Liaising closely with Finance, Risk and Compliance teams regarding renewals, invoicing, claims matters and regulatory requirements.
- Liaison with Fiscal Representatives on all IPT‑related matters, ensuring ongoing compliance in all relevant jurisdictions.
- Working with internal and external auditors, providing clear explanations of insurance structures, policies, and related documentation.
- Developing and maintaining strong technical knowledge of captives and PCC (re)insurance matters, acting as a knowledgeable point of reference within the insurance team.
- Ensuring full adherence to the Office Procedures Manual, including completion of checklists, maintenance of supporting documentation, appropriate authorisations, sign‑offs, and timelines, while actively identifying opportunities for operational improvement.
- Maintaining awareness of, and compliance with, the Insurance Business Act, related regulations and internal policies issued by the Risk & Compliance team.
- Monitoring and ensuring compliance with Passporting Regulations and/or General Good Provisions in each territory where passporting arrangements are in place.
- Supporting the preparation and submission of MFSA applications for new clients or new lines of business for existing clients.
- Undertaking ad‑hoc reports, projects and presentations for clients and internal stakeholders, using independent judgement and minimal supervision.
- Supporting the Insurance Manager with operational coordination, workload management, and capacity planning, including identifying operational risks, process inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
- Building and maintaining strong professional relationships with clients, client representatives, Board and Committee members, auditors, actuaries, brokers, and insurance/reinsurance markets.
This is not an exhaustive list, and it is expected that the Senior Insurance Executive demonstrates ownership, accountability, and proactive engagement, while familiarising themselves with and diligently applying the Office Procedures Manual.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
- Recognised insurance qualification.
- Strong and proven experience in the insurance industry, preferably within captive insurance management or a similar regulated environment.
- Strong understanding of insurance products, regulatory frameworks, and industry developments.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement, initiative, and proactive management of operational responsibilities.
- High degree of professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive client and business information.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels, including senior stakeholders and Boards.
- Strong presentation and report‑writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate and timely documentation.
