Overview of Department

Purpose of Role The Project Manager is responsible for delivering projects within agreed scope, time, cost, and quality parameters. The role is accountable for establishing and maintaining effective project governance, planning, and controls, ensuring that delivery remains aligned with the approved business case, the agreed methodology, and the firm’s Project Management Framework. The Project Manager provides clear visibility of progress, risks, dependencies, financial position, and decisions, and works with sponsors, delivery teams, PMO, Finance, and business stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver projects in line with agreed scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Support the preparation of business cases, including financial forecasts and delivery assumptions.
  • Establish and maintain project governance and controls in line with the framework.
  • Maintain RAID logs and project decision logs.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, risks, issues, dependencies, and interdependencies.
  • Track financial performance and project resourcing, including actual versus forecast costs, and escalate variances as required.
  • Ensure mandatory project data is complete and accurate.
  • Manage effective vendor relationships and support delivery where third parties are involved.
  • Work closely with Sponsors, Product Owners, Delivery Managers, Finance, PMO, and wider delivery teams to ensure successful delivery and handover.
  • Ensure governance stage gates, stakeholder reporting, testing, readiness, and handover activities are completed appropriately.

Your Knowledge and Experience

  • Prior and proven project management experience is essential, ideally within financial services or another regulated, complex environment.
  • Strong understanding of project governance, planning, lifecycle delivery, and core control disciplines including risk, dependency, and change management.
  • Good knowledge of project financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost oversight.
  • Experience working across a wide stakeholder group, with the ability to build credibility, communicate clearly, and provide constructive challenge.
  • Familiarity with Waterfall, Hybrid, and Agile delivery approaches, and the judgement to apply them proportionately to different types of change.

Qualifications

  • Recognised project management qualification (preferred) or equivalent practical experience.

You combine a structured approach with the flexibility to adapt when priorities change, communicating in a clear, calm, and constructive way to support successful delivery.

The role is based in Edinburgh, it can not be performed on a remote working basis. Regular office attendance on a weekly basis is required.
