Elevation Recruitment Group are working with a leading engineering business to recruit a Lead Mechanical Engineer to take full ownership of mechanical and structural design across a major international plant programme.

This is a senior, hands-on role where you’ll lead from the front—owning design delivery, driving standards, and working closely with global suppliers and site teams to bring complex, heavy fabricated systems to life.

The Role:

You’ll take technical responsibility for large-scale fabricated structures and plant integration, supporting delivery on a high-profile, multi-phase international project.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading design of heavy fabricated structures – skids, frames, platforms, lifting equipment and large assemblies
  • Signing off drawings, calculations, and ensuring compliance with key standards (BS 8888, EN 1090, ISO 3834, etc.)
  • Delivering structural and mechanical calculations (static, fatigue, buckling, weld sizing, GD&T, basic FEA)
  • Driving Design for Manufacture (DfMA), working closely with fabrication, production and QA teams
  • Managing global suppliers and contractors, including WPS/WPQR reviews, NDT processes and inspection plans
  • Supporting international plant builds – resolving site queries, RFIs, and participating in FAT/SAT activities
  • Leading engineering work packages and producing full technical documentation (BOMs, weld maps, test plans, reports)
  • Mentoring engineers and driving best practice across design and engineering processes

About You:

This role needs someone who knows fabricated structures inside out and is comfortable taking full technical ownership.

You’ll likely have:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, ideally chartered
  • Strong background in heavy welded/fabricated structures within a complex engineering environment
  • Deep understanding of BS/EN standards and welding/fabrication codes
  • Proven ability to sign off engineering calculations and design outputs
  • Experience working closely with fabrication shops, suppliers and QA teams
  • Background in global project delivery and supporting plant installations
  • Strong CAD capability (Inventor, SolidWorks, Vault or similar)
