Job Description
The Release Train Engineer (RTE) plays a critical role in coordinating, enabling, and governing delivery across multiple Agile teams within an AXIS Value Stream. Operating within the AXIS Agile framework, the RTE ensures that planning, execution, and delivery remain aligned to strategic objectives, portfolio priorities, and governance standards. As the primary facilitator of the Agile Release Train (ART), the RTE enables predictable, transparent, and value‑driven delivery, working closely with the Value Stream Lead, Portfolio Lead, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and business stakeholders. The role supports AXIS’ Agile principles of transparency, flow of value, built‑in quality, and continuous improvement.
What will you do in this role?
The Release Train Engineer provides program‑level delivery leadership, ensuring that teams operate effectively within AXIS Agile and Azure DevOps (ADO) standards. The RTE does not manage teams directly but facilitates alignment, removes systemic impediments, and ensures effective governance and reporting across the Value Stream.
Key Responsibilities
- Program & PI Planning - Facilitate Program Increment (PI) Planning, ensuring Agile teams are aligned to Value Stream objectives, strategic themes, and approved priorities.
- Planning & Management - Identify, track, and actively manage cross‑team and cross‑Value Stream dependencies, ensuring they are visible, owned, and governed within ADO.
- Leadership & Team Enablement - Remove impediments that block team progress, support team development in Agile maturity and delivery predictability.
- Metrics, Reporting, and Transparency - Own program‑level delivery reporting, providing clear visibility of progress, risks, dependencies, and outcomes.
- Track and communicate delivery progress using AXIS‑approved dashboards, tools, and reporting templates.
- Stakeholder Engagement - Partner with Product Owners to ensure well‑prioritized, clear, and ready backlog.
- Risk & Issue Management - Proactively identify, assess, and manage program‑level risks and issues. Facilitate mitigation planning and timely escalation. Be a driver of the resolution process.
- Facilitate alignment between the engineering team and business partners within the Corporate Value Stream.
- Continuous Improvement & Culture – Conduct Retrospective, produce lessons learned and propose changes to how we deliver to improve the overall effectiveness of the team.
