Job Description:

Project 560 CIC: Redefining Sanctuary in the North East.

Project 560 is a community‑led movement dedicated to creating a permanent, intersectional, and creative sanctuary for the LGBTQIA+ community in Newcastle and the wider North East. We are moving from a visionary concept to a registered Community Interest Company (CIC), and we are looking for a founding Board of Non‑Executive Directors to help us build the legal and financial foundations of this physical space.

Built by the community, for the community, Project 560 isn’t just a venue; it’s a legacy project designed to ensure safety, joy, and visibility for generations to come.

The Opportunity: Founding Non‑Executive Directors

This is a voluntary, board‑level position for individuals who want to use their professional expertise to make a tangible social impact. As a founding member, you will have a direct hand in shaping the strategy, governance, and long‑term sustainability of the sanctuary.

Note on Compensation

While Board roles are voluntary, we value your labour. Any operational shifts worked within the physical venue (once open) will be paid at National Minimum Wage (NMW).

1. Treasurer & Financial Lead

  • The Focus: Guardian of the mission’s resources.
  • Responsibilities: Oversee founding donations, track start‑up spending, and build the financial models for sustainability.
  • CV Impact: Experience in start‑up financial planning, grant fund management, and non‑profit fiscal responsibility.

2. Secretary & Governance Lead

  • The Focus: The “backbone” of the board.
  • Responsibilities: Ensure meetings are productive, records are legally compliant, and official filings (Companies House/CIC) are up to date.
  • CV Impact: Proven track record in corporate/non‑profit governance and legal compliance.

3. Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Officer

  • The Focus: The conscience of the project.
  • Responsibilities: Ensure every policy, event, and space we create is intersectional, accessible, and truly safe for all identities.
  • CV Impact: Expertise in policy development and inclusive strategic planning.

4. Community Liaison & Outreach Lead

  • The Focus: The bridge between the Board and the people.
  • Responsibilities: Manage community feedback and ensure our supporters feel heard and represented.
  • CV Impact: Experience in stakeholder management and large‑scale coordination.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Evidence of Skill: We are looking for “evidence of work” in your respective field (Finance, Admin, EDI, or PR).
  • Passion for the Mission: A deep understanding of (or lived experience within) the LGBTQIA+ community in the North East.
  • Commitment: Ability to commit to one formal Board meeting per month (virtual or in‑person).
  • Transparency: A willingness to be a visible face of the mission (including our “cartoon likeness” transparency initiative).
