Financial Improvement Project Manager (Interim)

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Improvement Project Manager to support the delivery of a large-scale Finance Improvement Programme. This role will focus on driving the successful planning, delivery, and recovery of multiple transformation projects aimed at strengthening financial management, governance, and overall organisational performance.

You will work across the organisation to ensure projects are clearly defined, effectively delivered, and aligned to the Council’s corporate and recovery objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and delivery of multiple finance-related transformation projects
• Monitor progress, risks, dependencies, and ensure timely resolution of issues
• Support recovery of underperforming projects and drive continuous improvement
• Provide clear, accurate reporting to senior stakeholders, including leadership teams and external bodies
• Ensure strong governance, audit trails, and compliance with public sector standards
• Collaborate across departments to build effective stakeholder relationships
• Support change management and embed sustainable improvements
• Manage project budgets and track benefits realisation

About You

• Proven experience delivering complex transformation or improvement projects
• Strong understanding of financial management, controls, or cost improvement
• Experience working in the public sector / local government environment
• Confident engaging and influencing senior stakeholders
• Strong knowledge of governance, risk, and audit processes
• Project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, MSP) or equivalent experience
• Finance background or part/fully qualified accountant (desirable)
