Planning, Costing and Productivity Accountant

Our Planning, Costing and Productivity teams at RUH Bath, GWH Swindon and SFT Salisbury have come together as part of the new BSW Hospitals Group, creating an exciting opportunity to shape a smarter, more integrated approach to costing across all three Trusts.

We’re now recruiting talented individuals to help us build this new way of working. With roles based at any of our group sites – Bath, Swindon or Salisbury – you’ll be part of a forward‑thinking team working at scale to deliver real impact.

Planning, Costing and Productivity in the NHS is a chance to bring real insight into how resources are used throughout the patient journey. Our team calculates the cost of every activity the Group provides, delivering mandatory cost returns, service line reporting and high‑quality information that influences key decision‑making, planning and benchmarking across the organisation.

Main duties of the job

As a Planning, Costing and Productivity Accountant, you’ll play a key role in managing and running the Group’s costing systems, producing accurate, meaningful costed activity data on a quarterly cycle. Your immediate priority will be the National Cost Collection submission but you’ll also drive continuous improvement in data quality, help refine costing processes, and work closely with colleagues across finance and operational teams to ensure our insights make a difference. You will work in a team of three Planning, Costing and Productivity Accountants.

The Group supports hybrid working, so flexibility can be given. As Planning, Costing and Productivity Accountant, you will:

  • Produce the annual national cost collection, a mandatory submission for all Trusts in the Group.
  • Manage, update and maintain the Group’s costing systems to provide high‑quality data to support the Senior Finance Team, Divisional Directors/Managers, and Clinical Managers in all aspects of costing.
  • Provide cost data to support services with productivity reviews, benchmarking, planning and improved financial management of the Group’s activities.
  • Liaise with service teams to identify and improve data which will enhance the quality and accuracy of costing.

About us

We are proud to be part of BSW Hospitals Group – a formal partnership between Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. With a combined workforce of over 17,600 colleagues, and a budget of 1.6 billion, the Group is united by a common purpose to deliver the best possible care to over 1 million people.

We are creating a health and care system that works with the people we care for, reducing the differences people currently face in access, experience and outcomes, improving the experience of our colleagues and tackling shared challenges like sustainability and finances. Every improvement we make across our Group will be guided by what creates the greatest benefit for our colleagues, our patients, our communities and our partners.
