We are working with a well-established, multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy to recruit a Senior / Principal Drainage Infrastructure Engineer to join their growing Cardiff team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a bright, enthusiastic, and open-minded individual to help lead a Drainage Infrastructure team, supporting the delivery of civil engineering design across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects.

Working within a collaborative environment and reporting to senior leadership, you will play a key role in leading the design and delivery of projects with a strong focus on Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) and conventional surface water drainage design.

This is a varied and technically challenging role suited to someone who thrives on solving engineering problems and takes pride in delivering high-quality solutions for clients.

The Role

  • Assist in leading the delivery of civil engineering design across infrastructure projects
  • Lead surface water and foul water drainage strategies and detailed designs
  • Deliver SuDS and conventional drainage solutions
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and prioritise deliverables
  • Provide technical support and resource planning
  • Support and mentor engineers at varying levels of experience
  • Liaise with statutory bodies including Natural Resources Wales and the Environment Agency
  • Manage Water Authority statutory approval processes (S104, S106, etc.)
  • Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships

Skills & Experience Required

  • 7+ years’ experience in surface and foul water design and/or construction
  • Strong knowledge of Sewers for Adoption and Design Manual for Roads and Bridges
  • Civil Engineering degree (Masters preferred)
  • Chartered status with ICE or CIWEM (or close to completion)
  • Proficient in 3D design and modelling software including:
    • MicroDrainage
    • InfoDrainage
    • AutoCAD
    • Civils 3D
    • Autodesk ICM
  • Experience with:
    • S104 and S106 approval processes
    • SuDS Approval Body (SAB) approvals
    • National Planning Policy and flood risk management requirements
  • Demonstrable team leadership capability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Proactive and methodical approach to problem-solving
