Estimator

A well-established and growing construction and civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its commercial team based in Accrington.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and expanding contractor delivering projects across a range of sectors. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing competitive tenders and supporting the business in securing new work.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates and tender submissions for a range of construction and civil engineering projects.
• Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.
• Carry out detailed take-offs and cost analysis for labour, materials and plant.
• Source and assess subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Liaise with internal teams including commercial, operational and project delivery teams to ensure accurate pricing.
• Identify risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions during the tender process.
• Attend pre-tender meetings and site visits where required.
• Assist in preparing tender documentation and bid submissions.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
• Support the handover of successful tenders to the project delivery team.

Requirements

• Proven experience working as an Estimator within the construction or civil engineering sector.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials and project costing.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Experience producing detailed cost breakdowns and tender submissions.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Excellent organisational and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
• Experience working on industrial, infrastructure, or specialist contracting projects.
• Knowledge of NEC or JCT contracts.
• Degree or qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar.
