Job Title: Senior / Principal Planning Consultant

Location: Atherstone

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading independent environmental and planning consultancy in their search for a Senior / Principal Planning Consultant.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced planning professional to play a key role in delivering complex and technically challenging projects across the minerals, waste, and environmental sectors. You will work alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

The Role

As a Senior / Principal Planning Consultant, you will take a leadership role in project delivery while providing expert planning advice to both clients and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to senior leadership within the planning team
  • Lead and contribute to a wide range of planning and environmental projects
  • Manage all stages of project delivery, including coordination of internal and external specialists
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring quality and timely delivery
  • Deliver clear, practical advice on UK planning policy and environmental legislation
  • Manage and coordinate Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental Statements
  • Lead the preparation and submission of planning applications, including Development Consent Orders (DCOs)
  • Liaise effectively with clients, regulators, and key stakeholders
  • Support business development activities and maintain strong client relationships

About You

  • Proven experience in minerals and waste planning
  • Strong knowledge of UK planning legislation and policy
  • Experience in renewable energy projects (desirable)
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills
  • Strong project management skills, including budgets and team coordination
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused approach
  • Comfortable working across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications

  • Degree (BSc or equivalent) in Planning or a related discipline
  • Membership of a professional body such as RTPI, CIWM, or ISEP
  • Full UK driving licence
