We are seeking an experienced Life Science Innovation Manager to join our well‑established Commercial Innovation team within the Trust’s Centre for Innovation, Transformation and Improvement (CITI).
The Commercial Innovation team is the Trust’s in‑house technology transfer and commercial partnerships function. We support the identification, protection and commercialisation of intellectual property (IP), and lead the negotiation of commercial collaborations including data sharing, material transfer, consultancy and partnership agreements. We manage a strong innovation pipeline, a well‑maintained patent portfolio and a proven track record of delivering commercial impact.
This role will focus on identifying, developing and managing life science‑related innovation opportunities arising across the organisation and leading associated strategic development. You will also support biobank‑related activity, material transfer agreements, data‑sharing collaborations, consultancy and service agreements, and support technology adoption projects, translational funding applications and the management of IP arising from clinical research.
The role is suited to someone with strong IP and contracting experience, a track record of commercialising complex assets such as IP, data and clinical materials, and the ability to build effective relationships, manage competing priorities and operate confidently at both strategic and delivery levels within a collaborative public‑sector environment.
Manage Commercial Innovation Portfolio
Oversee complex commercial innovation opportunities, focusing on IP commercialisation, technology adoption and commercial data and sample collaborations, particularly in relation to life sciences.
Negotiate Agreements
Act as a representative for the Head of IP Commercialisation to negotiate IP and commercial innovation agreements, including data sharing and material transfer agreements.
Connect with External Bodies
Identify and connect with external business and funding bodies to create income‑generating opportunities for the Trust.
Draft Contracts
Lead the drafting of confidentiality agreements and contracts with external parties.
Assess IP and Data Assets
Conduct market analysis, assess the value of the Trust’s IP and non‑IP assets (such as data and samples).
Protect Intellectual Property
Act on behalf of the Trust to protect its IP, liaise with Patent Agents, and file/register IP at relevant offices.
Provide Expertise
Serve as the point of contact for IP and Commercial Innovation issues, ensuring adherence to the Trust’s IP Policy.
Deliver Training
Prepare and deliver presentations on IP and Commercial Innovation to Trust staff.
Monitor Financial Data
Track contract milestones, raise invoice requests, and ensure effective management of revenues from commercial innovation activities.

The Centre for Innovation, Transformation and Improvement (CITI) at Guy’s and St Thomas’s was founded in 2021 under the Deputy Chief Executive (DCE).
The DCE is the Executive Director responsible for leading and developing the Trust’s strategy for innovation and improvement, which aims to develop an ecosystem that encourages the acceleration of new knowledge and capabilities and learn from best practices globally, to deliver improvements in patient care at scale. CITI co‑locates multi‑faced teams to provide the focal point for clinical innovators and services seeking to translate ideas or early‑stage products or improvements into clinical practice. The Centre aims both to incubate and deliver innovations and improvement ideas, projects and programmes, working alongside and for its clinical customers for the benefit of patients.
CITI builds on industry best practice in taking innovation from concept to practice. It aims to foster a culture of innovation and improvement throughout the Trust, and acts as the intellectual home of our core improvement methodologies. CITI aims to improve the rate of adoption of new clinical technologies with an agile operational model, delivering a data‑driven approach to evaluating performance of novel technologies, creating a sustainable culture of innovation in clinical and operational workforce, and to build enduring partnerships with academia, industry, investors and key NHS Stakeholders.
