Wrexham AFC offers paid internships for the 2026/27 season. The programme is designed for students who have recently completed a relevant degree or are undertaking a “year in industry” as part of their course. Successful applicants will gain practical, hands‑on experience in an elite football environment.
Role: Sports Science Internship
Contract duration: 10–11 months
Type: Internship
Hours: Full‑time (40 hrs per week). Applicants must be prepared to work outside normal office hours, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and match days.
Department: Men’s First Team & Boys Academy
Location: Wrexham (various sites)
Subject to an enhanced DBS check (with Children’s Barred list)
The role reports to the Head of Performance and the relevant Sports Science lead. Interns will work within a fast‑paced, demanding elite environment, learning a comprehensive range of skills to progress their careers after university.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide accurate GPS reports of team and individual analysis on a daily and weekly basis.
- Ensure Train my Athlete (TMA) / Football Intelligence Platform (FIP) are consistently and regularly updated for all Sport Science data requirements.
- Assist with daily workflow to set up training and gym sessions.
- Implement individualised, developmental programmes to support player development.
- Contribute to player rehab and performance programmes.
- Assist with nutrition and hydration planning for the team and individuals.
- Work match days and assist as directed by relevant staff.
- Support training, gym and rehab sessions as requested.
- Ideal for someone with a keen interest in Strength & Conditioning as part of their Sports Science qualification.
Experience / Qualifications Required
- Studying toward a degree in Sports Science (or equivalent) with a placement year.
- Experience working with athletes from novice and amateur to professional levels.
- Experience completing physical exercise and strenuous activities.
- Current FA/FAW Safeguarding Children Workshop Certificate (or willingness to complete within 1 month of appointment).
- Strong interest in the Strength & Conditioning aspect of sports science.
- Ability to travel across the UK and occasionally overseas.
