The Proprietor of Abbotsholme School invites applications for the post of Assistant Headteacher, effective 1st September 2026. Abbotsholme (https://www.abbotsholme.co.uk/) is a non‑selective independent, co‑educational, day and international boarding school located near Uttoxeter. Established in 1889 by Dr Cecil Reddie, the school boasts historic buildings, high academic standards and a caring community that supports every pupil from ages 2 to 18. Key Responsibilities
- Academic Leadership – support the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s academic strategy, monitor and improve student attainment, analyse data to identify trends and gaps, and promote high expectations for achievement.
- Curriculum Development – support the design, implementation and review of a broad, balanced, ambitious curriculum that meets statutory requirements and aligns with national standards; work with departments to maintain high‑quality schemes of work and ensure curriculum continuity across year groups.
- Teaching and Learning – lead initiatives to improve teaching quality, support and challenge staff through lesson observations, feedback and coaching, promote evidence‑informed practices and coordinate professional development.
- Assessment and Data – oversee the assessment framework and reporting processes, ensure accurate tracking of progress, analyse examination results, and report performance to senior leaders, governors and stakeholders.
- Student Achievement and Support – maintain systems that support high achievement, work with pastoral and SEND teams to remove barriers, and promote inclusion and equal opportunities.
- Whole‑School Leadership – contribute to the strategic direction as part of the Senior Leadership Team, participate in self‑evaluation and improvement planning, represent the school in academic partnerships, and undertake other duties as directed by the Headteacher, including event management.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should be educated to degree level and either be working towards a professional leadership qualification such as NPQH or have extensive and relevant experience that qualifies them for the Assistant Headteacher role. The successful candidate will be ambitious, personable and resourceful, with a passion for the school and a first‑rate understanding of metrics that demonstrate academic progress and pastoral excellence.
