Job Description:

Our client are a gloibal leader in the Dat Centre market, searching for an experienced Data Centre Shift Technician to join a dedicated on-site engineering team at a high-profile data centre in London. This role is ideal for a multi-skilled technician with a background in electrical or mechanical systems, and a strong understanding of critical infrastructure environments.

Preference will be given to candidates who are HVAP qualified or working toward Authorised Person status, with experience supporting high-availability systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive tasks on critical building services equipment, including:
  • UPS systems
  • Generators
  • LV & HV switchgear
  • CRAC/CRAH units
  • BMS/EMS systems
  • Act as site HVAP or assist the Authorised Person with isolations and switching procedures (if qualified).
  • Conduct fault diagnosis, issue resolution, and escalation of plant failures.
  • Monitor and respond to alarms across BMS/DCIM platforms, ensuring rapid and accurate responses.
  • Complete detailed shift reports, logbooks, and permit-to-work documentation.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health and safety, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Support audits, site inspections, and client reporting when required.
  • Work closely with contractors, OEM vendors, and internal facilities teams to ensure site integrity.

Requirements:

  • Recognised electrical or mechanical qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in a critical environment such as a data centre, hospital, or financial institution.
  • Good knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical plant, and safe systems of work (SSOW).
  • HV Authorised Person status (desirable), or willingness to achieve AP certification.
  • Strong understanding of risk and compliance in a high-availability environment.
  • Excellent communication, teamworking, and documentation skills.
  • Experience working on Generators, UPS (Static & Rotary), Fire Suppression, Leak Detection, and Chillers.
  • Familiarity with CMMS tools and BMS systems (Trend, Schneider, or similar).
  • IOSH/NEBOSH certifications.
  • Basic IT literacy (Excel, Outlook, CAFM systems).
