Job Purpose

To assist in maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for patients, staff and visitors. To carry out general cleaning duties in all areas of the hospital and to apply specialist cleaning methods using appropriate materials and equipment where necessary.

Responsibilities

• Clean allocated work area to the agreed standards and frequencies as per work schedules
• Carry out specialised cleaning tasks for isolation rooms, theatres and other areas to agreed standards
• Decontaminate rooms using Hydrogen Peroxide Vapour equipment in line with Infection Prevention & Control guidelines
• Remove body fluid spillages safely in public and communal areas
• Protect body fluid safety using appropriate PPE and procedures
• Clean surfaces including floors, edges, ledges, fixtures and fittings
• Clean sanitary areas correctly
• Carry out high‑ and low‑level cleaning using correct methods
• Replenish supplies of paper towels, toilet rolls, soap, hand sanitizer and hand conditioner
• Adhere to departmental colour coding policy
• Comply with Trust Infection Control policies and procedures
• Report defective equipment to housekeeping supervisor
• Use cleaning chemicals safely and appropriately
• Work at heights and clean ventilation grilles and light fittings as required

Qualifications

• Basic Education
• Cleaning experience in a healthcare or similar environment
• Basic IT knowledge
• Knowledge of using floor buffers and scrubbers
• Knowledge of COSHH
