Senior Electrical Engineer - Mission Critical (London, UK)
Burns & McDonnell is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our global facilities services Mission Critical team in London. The role involves leading electrical design for high‑tech building projects, initially focusing on data centers and telecommunications facilities, with opportunities to work on pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare, manufacturing, airports and institutional sites.
Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design project teams from conceptual phase through design completion.
- Prepare electrical equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
- Review equipment vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients and other engineering disciplines.
- Develop project schedules, scopes, budgets, staffing plans and construction plans; manage change orders.
- Apply expert knowledge of electrical codes, standards and practices; identify non‑standard design solutions for complex projects.
- Conduct quality reviews of production drawings and construction administration documentation.
- Perform field inspections, installations, measurements and calculations for public and private clients.
- Prepare and present technical reports and project budgets to clients and stakeholders.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, contractors and sales teams to support business development.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers and ensure compliance with QA/QC and safety policies.
- Other duties as assigned and comply with all company policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and 7 years of electrical engineering experience (EPC project experience preferred).
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years of electrical engineering experience (EPC project experience preferred).
- Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures, ANSI and IEEE standards.
- Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks.
- Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to perform quality reviews of detailed engineering documents.
- Willingness to travel (approximately 10% of the time).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
