Key Projects
As a Design Partner on UK rail infrastructure projects, you will support programmes such as Northern Powerhouse Rail, Eastern Routes Partnership, North West & Central Framework, Core Valley Lines, Trans‑Pennine Route Upgrade, and Cardiff Crossrail.
The Role
As a Principal Engineer you will act as a technical team leader, providing advice, guidance and supervision to technical teams, operational managers, clients and suppliers. You will manage or influence the actions of technical teams regardless of office location, project or account, including multidisciplinary environments, and undertake the people manager role when required.
Responsibilities
- Act as a technical team leader, advising, guiding and supervising technical teams, operational managers, clients and suppliers.
- Lead the preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation to meet quality, cost and programme criteria.
- Take responsibility for the commercial success of projects within your portfolio, controlling budgets and managing costs.
- Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level and higher, presenting proposals, attending progress meetings and responding to queries.
- Contribute to and lead the preparation of bids and the general work winning function, taking responsibility for technical and commercial offers.
- Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.
Qualifications
- High level experience and expertise within civil engineering, gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent.
- Ability to produce and lead technically sound engineering solutions complying with standards and client requirements.
- Experience managing health, safety and welfare tasks under Amey’s Integrated Management System and CDM Regulations.
- Capability to act as engineering lead or Contractor’s Engineering Manager (CEM) for Network Rail schemes.
- Strong understanding of design and specification processes, managing and leading teams.
- Proficiency with relevant software and analytical tools, validating and approving new tools.
- Excellent understanding of CDM and risk assessment, capable of acting as Principal Designer.
- Supervisory and people‑management skills with multidisciplinary team leadership.
- Incorporated or Chartered status, or equivalent professional licence through a recognised institution.
