Role Description

My client a Private Equity backed support services business is seeking a Financial Controller based in Birmingham. As Financial Controller reporting to the Finance Director you will oversee the finance function, managing a team of four and ensuring accurate, timely reporting.

Month-End Close & Reporting

  • Leading and coordinating the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Reviewing reconciliations, journals, and adjustments prepared by the team
  • Delivering consolidated financial statements and management accounts

Board Pack Preparation & Analysis

  • Preparing comprehensive board packs including financial commentary, KPIs, and variance analysis
  • Providing clear insights into performance drivers, risks, and opportunities
  • Supporting senior leadership with ad-hoc analysis for strategic decision-making

Bad Debt Management

  • Monitoring receivables and oversee credit control processes
  • Identifying assessing, and managing bad debt exposure
  • Implementing policies to minimise credit risk and improve collections
  • Managing and mentoring a team of four finance professionals
  • Allocating responsibilities, review outputs, and fostering professional development
  • Promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Strong technical knowledge of financial reporting and consolidation
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to produce clear commentary for senior stakeholders
  • Leadership experience managing small finance teams
  • Proficiency in financial systems and advanced Excel
  • Detail-oriented yet capable of seeing the bigger picture
  • Resilient, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Job Offer

Up to £65,000 plus benefits and hybrid working
