Job Description
As a Peer Support Specialist on the Rapid Response Team, you will be an important member of a team addressing substance use disorders. Using your own lived experiences with recovery, you will build meaningful relationships that empower patients to achieve their personal goals. You will support patients by offering empathy, encouragement, and practical guidance, and will play an essential role in building recovery capital—the internal strengths and external resources that sustain long-term recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with a multi‑disciplinary team including clinicians, psychiatrists, case managers, and more to support patients in achieving treatment goals and objectives.
- Apply stages of change and motivational interviewing skills to meet individuals wherever they are in their recovery journey.
- Use lived experience to engage individuals in identifying and working toward goals that build on recovery capital.
- Provide support to individuals that fosters independence, autonomy, and self‑advocacy.
- Assist individuals to access sustainable community resources that promote wellness and recovery.
- Act as an advocate to reduce stigma and promote resiliency.
- Attend and actively participate in treatment team meetings and individual and group supervisions.
- Communicate effectively with peers, managers, and support staff.
- Maintain and complete all documentation required in a timely manner.
- Comply with regulatory confidentiality requirements as outlined in HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
- Provide support that is sensitive to diverse cultures, languages, and recovery models.
- Possess a teamwork ethic and behave in a manner that aligns with high standards of ethical practice.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must have organizational, written, and verbal skills.
- Basic computer experience required.
- Successful candidates will be organized self‑starters who enjoy working in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
- Must be certified as a Peer Specialist or Recovery Coach. Must be eligible for CRSW and Intentional Peer Support certificates.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and an automobile with liability insurance in the amount required by agency policy.
Experience
Experience working as a peer specialist in a mental health center setting and/or substance misuse services is highly recommended.
Education
A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
