ABOUT SHERIDANS

Sheridans is a leading London law firm whose lawyers combine the in-depth legal knowledge and breadth of expertise and experience required to give unparalleled advice to their clients.

Since 1956, Sheridans has represented individuals and organisations across a wide variety of sectors, providing quality advice which is commercially focused and personally delivered. Specialist lawyers in leisure, media, and entertainment work closely alongside the firm’s corporate finance, employment, real estate, and dispute resolution groups to provide a truly bespoke service to its clients.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Sheridans adopts a commercial approach to dispute resolution: the focus is on identifying the principal issues early and formulating a strategy to reach a commercial outcome as efficiently as possible. If litigation becomes inevitable, the team is highly experienced when it comes to managing the process, providing robust and tailored representation and insulating clients as much as possible so they can continue to focus their attention on their businesses.

The team has vast experience of litigation within this jurisdiction and internationally, across the Firm’s core sectors such as music, film and television, media, computer games, and sport. The team is also experienced in all forms of alternative dispute resolution including arbitration, mediation, and expert determination.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Paralegal to join our well-regarded Dispute Resolution team at Sheridans. The successful individual will be technically astute and have experience within established City/Global practices, or within a specialist firm of equivalent top-tier quality.

An aptitude to develop strong technical expertise and support the team is a pre-requisite for the role; however, a key component to success in this role is an enthusiastic outlook and interest in engaging with the team’s clients and sectors and ultimately providing first-rate support to a busy and dynamic team. The work will involve providing support across the department in respect of contractual/commercial disputes, IP litigation, as well as reputation management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Undertaking legal and factual research as requested on a wide range of differing matters
  • Assisting the fee earners with their caseloads and providing support from instruction through to post-trial
  • Preparing thorough court documentation required in the preparation of cases for court hearings and/or trial
  • Assisting with drafting of documents including attendance notes, advice, letters, presentations, as well as amending and proofreading, and other document work as required
  • Document management including bundling and maintaining registers of bundles on active matters
  • Liaising with clients and handling matters with the appropriate sensitivity, where appropriate
  • Attending court hearings, mediations, meetings, and telephone conferences with internal team, clients, opponents, Counsel, experts, court, and other parties
  • Providing general administrative support for the team including photocopying, scanning, taking minutes/meeting notes and amending departmental documentation
  • Providing support in respect of business development tasks

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the Firm and the overall business needs.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

Skills & experience

  • A methodical approach to work with a strong focus on accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience liaising with senior internal stakeholders and with the ability to prepare drafts tailored to each specific client and/or their needs
  • Enthusiasm, resilience, and a professional approach, with an excellent customer service ethic
  • Ability to liaise with, persuade and influence colleagues at all levels
  • Ability to remain organised, prioritise and multi-task particularly when managing a large workload under pressure and to tight, and often competing, deadlines
  • Ability to work confidentially, remaining discreet at all times, and to work effectively as part of a team
  • Good commercial awareness and a clear interest in Sheridans’ core sectors
  • Flexibility towards working out of regular hours at busy times

Qualifications

  • A strong academic record
  • Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB), or non-law degree with GDL
