This is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Derby for a Ceramic Scientist specialising in 3D printing. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing, optimising, and characterising ceramic formulations and resin binders for additive manufacturing. Duties include conducting experiments, analysing ceramic materials, working with 3D printing equipment, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions. Active participation in R&D projects, customer liaison experience, managing large‑scale and multi‑stakeholder research projects (UKRI, Innovate UK, EPSRC, European Horizon, etc.) and interaction with industry partners will also be key components of this role.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge and experience with ceramic materials such as silica, alumina, and zirconia, including their 3D printing, injection processes, or CNC machining.
- Strong skills in material characterisation, vacuum/atmosphere heat treatment, and firing processes for ceramics.
- Proficiency with additive manufacturing technologies, particularly DLP vat‑photopolymerisation, and experience operating 3D printing and OEM equipment.
- Analytical and research skills.
- Educational background in materials science, ceramic engineering, chemical engineering, chemical science, polymers, or related fields; advanced degree preferred (e.g., MSc, PhD).
- Strong problem‑solving skills, ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or R&D environment is advantageous.
You must have valid permission to work in the UK, a masters/PhD or a minimum of 4 years’ work experience in fields relevant to this job spec, and be willing to work on multiple projects and cross‑functional teams.
