Job Description

BFPA is a business specializing in the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of hydraulic power units and related equipment within the UK. Following successful large projects, a Design Engineer is needed within the projects division.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake 3D part, assembly & GA drawings for manufacturing using Solidworks.
  • Create BOMs and generate detailed costing sheets.
  • Order materials from suppliers and manage supplier relationships.
  • Maintain an in-house 3D part drawing library.
  • Produce fabrication drawings for construction.
  • Design hydraulic schematic circuits & solutions.
  • Participate in DFMEA & Design Risk Assessment workshops.
  • Create 2D P&ID drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Coordinate projects where required and develop tender packages for future works.
  • Input into weekly project update meetings with clients.

Qualifications – Must Have

  • Eligible to work within the UK; no sponsorship offered.
  • Proficiency with Solidworks & AutoCAD.
  • Minimum 5 years design experience in the hydraulic industry.
  • Experience working in an engineering/design department environment.
  • Ability to produce 3D part drawings from provided information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word & Visio.
  • Deliver on deadlines and work well with teammates.
  • Understanding of mechanical fabrication & pipework techniques.
  • Strong planning, organisation & communication skills.
  • Orientation towards quality, safety & continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently & collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Manage own workload & time.
  • HNC or higher in mechanical engineering.

Qualifications – Nice to Have

  • Degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years leading a design team in the hydraulic sector.
  • Cetop level 2 or above qualification from NFPC.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project.
  • Lead & manage on‑site installation team.
  • Undertake FAT & on‑site commissioning of hydraulic equipment.
  • Manage projects of £100K+ in value.
  • Interface with clients to develop project scope of works.
  • Produce & manage detailed project & manufacturing plans.
  • Experience fault finding of hydraulic systems.
