Responsibilities

  • Interpret Electrical Diagrams: The candidate must be capable of reading and interpreting electrical schematic diagrams.
  • Plan & Populate Panel Backplates: Able to plan backplate, measure, cut and fix Din rail/trunking, populate the backplate with components.
  • Control Panel Wiring: Ensure the correct cable crimps/ferrules are fitted and all cables are marked up with cable identification.
  • Mains Cabling: Install mains power cables ensuring the cable and cable lugs are of the right size and type and are correctly identified.
  • Power Cabling: Fit power cables to components and tighten to the specified torque setting.
  • Earthing: Install earth cables throughout the enclosure to the earth bar ensuring all removable covers are connected.
  • Heat Shrinking: Produce heat-shrink wire markers and components labels using dedicated printing machines.
  • Door Assembly: Drill, Tap and fix engraved labels to doors, punch and cut holes for lamps, switches and other devices.
  • Mentoring: Assist in the training and development of apprentice technicians through one-to-one coaching.
  • Quality: Comply with Quality Assurance Procedures, applicable to control panel manufacture.
  • Documentation: Be able to identify errors and document mark-ups to schematics and design information.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance the control panel build processes, reduce costs, and improve efficiencies.
  • Team Coordination: Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure alignment on project deliverables.

Skills and experiences

  • Experience: Previous panel wiring/panel building experience essential. LV Switchgear, motor control principles and control panel design experience desirable.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with control panel design. Previous experience of interpreting electrical drawings and technical instructions.
  • Communication Skills: Good inter-personal skills, team work, hands-on approach with effective verbal and written communication skills. Able to work alone and as part of a team.
  • Other Skills: Knowledge of Pneumatic and Hydraulic systems and any Safety related skills would be considered advantageous.

Specific Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a similar role.
  • Applicable Apprenticeship and/or time served or relevant qualifications (C&G, BTEC or equivalent)
