Job Description

Key capabilities, knowledge, skills and experience:

  • A deep knowledge and detailed experience of retirement products including annuities, pensions, investments (ISA’s etc) and lifetime mortgages market; handling volumes and profitability accordingly.
  • Knowledge of at-retirement advice / guidance, and understanding of the broker and IFA market, to identify new distribution and at-retirement advice / guidance opportunities using multiple channels including digital.
  • Extensive experience delivering sophisticated change applying an agile change framework with a particular emphasis on customer digital experiences.
  • Strong business insight; understanding the economics, issues and trends in the at-retirement market, with validated experience of influencing, formulating and implementing the right business strategy.
  • A track record in delivering results and a commercial understanding of the drivers of retirement proposition P&L to balance shareholder and customer benefit.
  • Knowledge of customer motivators to facilitate the understanding. Experience of shaping, great and compliant customer journeys around retirement decisions; using a commercial, risk and customer lens.
  • A strong understanding of the regulatory and governance environment within the insurance regime, and how it impacts and supports at-retirement decision making.
  • Strong analytical skills; using external market and internal management information to provide insight to support future business and investment decisions in retirement propositions and the at-retirement journey.
  • Effective communication, making complex issues simple so as to engage a variety of collaborators both internally and externally.
  • The ability to influence at an executive level; building effective and collaborative relationships internally and externally.
  • Able to work closely with stakeholder groups and products cross-platform to ensure delivery through others.

Key accountabilities:

  • Fulfil the Retirement Advice and Guidance Lead Product Owner role alongside the Engineering Lead, to support the Director in setting the right strategy and drive the P&L.
  • Through the lab working within the Retirement Platform:
  • Build the link between the Mass Affluent programme and at Retirement advice.
  • Deliver required strategic and regulatory change, ensuring we have key people and process capabilities
  • Control costs and drive realization of productivity and efficiency gains.
  • Responsible for the development of Retirement Investment Pathways and the relationship with the Independent Governance Committee.
  • Work across IP&I Platforms to increase the quality of referrals to Schroders Personal Wealth.
  • Direct performance against key business plan indicators and objectives, taking action on any adverse variances from forecast and ensuring areas of over performance are maximised.
  • Interpret and explain business performance attributable to proposition supply to the design and pricing of propositions that best meet the financial performance, customer retention and customer treatment objectives of IP&I.
  • Design and deliver market leading retirement services to increase market share to align with the associated strategic change and investment.
  • Ensure all customer propositions and product designs fully embrace, embed and evidence alignment with the customer conduct risk strategy and desired customer experience.
  • Work with Regulatory Risk Team to anticipate and respond to emerging and known regulatory and reputational matters. Prepare the Retirement business to respond appropriately.
  • Actively handle and work with partners across the Group, taking accountability for improving the opportunity.
  • Build and maintain a strong business area, leading a team which provides an efficient mix of technical and leadership capabilities and behaviours to deliver business objectives
  • Lead, empower and develop all staff ensuring their individual and collective performance align with agreed Your Best standards and that succession plans are in place and actively led for all direct reports.
