Senior/Principal Independent Peer Review Assessor

Babcock is recruiting for a Senior/Principal Independent Peer Review Assessor to work at our Devonport site.

The role

The role is part of the Independent Nuclear Oversight (INO) Group within the Assurance Directorate. It involves providing independent advice on nuclear safety, radiological safety, radioactive waste management and compliance with legal and contractual requirements.

  • Conduct Independent Peer Review of safety documents, policy, methodology, strategy, and guidance documents in accordance with BMS, Nuclear Site Licence and MoD Authorisation requirements.
  • Present findings of Peer Review to the members of the Nuclear Safety Committee on behalf of the Independent Peer Review Manager.
  • Manage consultants sub‑contracted for external Peer Review as lead assessor.
  • Assist in formulating IPR strategy and policy to address emerging issues.
  • Prepare Peer Review reports, integrate them into the SCaNDS/IPR database and the Licencee’s documentation archive.

This is a full‑time, 35‑hour per week role providing hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience

  • General experience of safety‑related engineering in a high‑hazard industry.
  • Significant experience in conducting safety analysis, including FMECA, fault tree analysis, and probabilistic and deterministic safety assessments.
  • Experience in developing, managing, and analysing fault schedules and deriving safety functional requirements.
  • Experience authoring safety case claims, arguments and evidence demonstrating risk management.
  • Understanding of naval base infrastructure and submarine engineering is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Degree in an appropriate scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Chartered accreditation by an appropriate professional institution.
  • Completion of NUC0793 Nuclear Plant Foundation Course Module 1 (or equivalent).
  • Completion of NUC0794 Nuclear Fundamentals (Foundation) Course Module 2 (or equivalent).
  • Completion of NUC0911 Introduction to Safety Engineering (or equivalent).

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
