Chemical Process Engineer

Bristol (On-site)

CT19 is working with an emerging cleantech organisation focused on advancing sustainable solutions for complex materials. With applications across multiple industrial sectors, the business is developing scalable technologies designed to reduce waste and support circularity.

Due to significant backing and growth, the team is recruiting a Chemical Process Engineer to join their team. This role will play a key part in scaling a novel chemical recycling technology from laboratory to pilot plant, supporting the transition from early-stage development through to industrial application.

You will work closely with engineering, R&D and commercial teams, contributing to process design, optimisation and pilot plant delivery in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

Chemical Process Engineer key responsibilities

  • Support the scale-up of chemical processes from bench to pilot scale
  • Contribute to process design, modelling and optimisation (e.g. Aspen, HYSYS, Excel)
  • Assist in the design, build and operation of pilot plant systems, ensuring safe and efficient performance
  • Analyse process data to drive continuous improvement, cost reduction and efficiency gains
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g. root cause analysis, FMEA, Kaizen)
  • Conduct experimental work and testing on advanced materials and recycling processes
  • Develop and maintain process documentation (SOPs, technical reports, operating procedures)
  • Support equipment selection, supplier engagement and procurement activities
  • Assist with installation, commissioning and project coordination where required
  • Monitor KPIs and contribute to performance tracking and reporting
  • Collaborate cross-functionally and communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders

Chemical Process Engineer requirements

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline (2:1 or above)
  • Experience in scaling laboratory processes to pilot or industrial scale
  • Knowledge of process design and technology transfer
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A genuine interest in sustainability and circular economy technologies

Desirable:

  • Experience with polymers, composites or chemical recycling technologies
  • Knowledge of process safety frameworks (e.g. DSEAR, ATEX, HAZOP)
  • Experience with lifecycle assessment (LCA)
  • Project management experience or qualifications
