Overview
The Head of Business Development, Europe will lead all business development activities across the region across generics, complex generics, established brands, mature brands nearing loss of exclusivity, and innovative brands. This executive will bring a strategic mindset to transform and accelerate growth and profitability through portfolio mix, differentiated partnerships, and creative deal structures. The role works cross‑functionally with Commercial, R&D, and Operations leaders to ensure opportunities are commercially viable, scientifically sound, and operationally executable.
Responsibilities
- Partner with European Commercial leadership to align BD activities with portfolio gaps and market priorities.
- Define and execute the European BD strategy with a strong emphasis on generics, complex generics, established brands, mature brands nearing LOE, and new innovative brand opportunities.
- Anticipate market evolution and proactively identify how the company can shape the next stage of innovation in generics and established brands, including new delivery models, lifecycle management strategies, and creative deal‑making approaches.
- Identify and pursue licensing, and strategic partnerships in Europe that strengthen the core generics and established brand portfolio.
- Evaluate opportunities not only on financial and commercial terms but also on their potential to advance the business’s strategic objectives, both within the generics/established brand sector and select innovative brand opportunities.
- Lead negotiations and due diligence processes, collaborating with Legal, Finance, R&D, Regulatory, and Operations.
- Collaborate with Global BD leadership to ensure European insights and opportunities inform global growth strategies of transformation to innovation.
- Lead and mentor a European BD team with strong execution discipline and forward‑looking thinking.
Qualifications
- 8‑12+ years of business development or corporate strategy experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with significant European market expertise.
- Deep knowledge of European generics, complex generics, established brands, and innovative brand strategies.
- Proven success in mid‑to‑large‑scale BD transactions (licensing, partnerships, etc.) with measurable impact.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically about market evolution and innovation in mature pharma spaces.
- Strong cross‑functional collaboration skills, particularly with Commercial and Regulatory teams.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership presence; fluent in English (other European languages a plus).
