Solution Architect – Point of Sale (POS)

Overview
We are supporting a major retail transformation programme focused on delivering a next‑generation Point of Sale (POS) platform for in‑store colleagues. This is a high‑impact initiative, modernising the in‑store experience through a custom‑built user interface and deep integration with existing back‑office and order management systems.
As a Solution Architect, you will play a critical role in shaping the technical direction of the programme, ensuring scalable, future‑ready architecture that enhances both colleague and customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own end‑to‑end solution architecture for a modern POS platform
- Integrate with multiple legacy back‑office and order management systems
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to align technical solutions with commercial goals
- Design architecture that enhances customer journeys and drives measurable business value (e.g., conversion, basket size)
- Guide decisions around modern, headless, and composable architectures
- Ensure seamless integration with in‑store hardware (payment devices, scanners, mobile devices)
- Optimise applications across mobile and physical hardware environments
- Bring external perspective and challenge existing architectural approaches
Key Requirements
- Strong experience designing POS solutions, ideally within retail environments
- Proven track record integrating with legacy systems at scale
- Solid understanding of customer‑centric design and value creation
- Experience with modern architectures (e.g., headless, API‑first, event‑driven)
- Knowledge of hardware integration (payments, scanning, mobile devices)
- Forward‑thinking mindset, with interest in AI and emerging technologiesStrong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
