Senior Project Manager – Mechanical

We employ the UK’s most experienced and skilled technical services professionals. The role is based at Hinkley Point C (HPC), the first new nuclear power station built in the UK in over 20 years. The Senior Project Manager will apply a project management approach to design, detailed design, manufacturing and construction activities, primarily through contracts and commissioning managed with integrated contractor and EDF Energy teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead on the Turbine Contract scope, managing interfaces with other programme elements.
  • Secure and maintain required resources, ensuring SQEP compliance and addressing personnel shortfalls.
  • Develop and execute execution strategies and plans in line with the Programme Execution Plan (PEP).
  • Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders and execute the contract or package plans.
  • Drive delivery to meet safety, time, budget and technical requirements; monitor progress against milestones and provide reports.
  • Anticipate, manage and resolve issues; identify risks and facilitate resolution, update the programme budget, and escalation to Delivery Manager.
  • Ensure schedules are developed, maintained and aligned with overall project schedules; report discrepancies to Project Controls Director.
  • Deliver the List of Deliverables (LOD) for the scope of work.
  • Apply Earned Value Management (EVM) and Continuous Improvement principles.
  • Capture lessons learned and knowledge as part of business as usual.
  • Coordinate with other programmes for a high-level view of overall project progress and best‑practice adoption.

Education, Experience and Skills

  • Track record of delivering projects within technically complex and dynamic environments, with high safety and environmental standards, ideally in the nuclear energy sector.
  • Turbine experience is an advantage but not essential.
  • Experience managing FIDIC contracts is an advantage but not essential.
  • Strong management skills: project, financial, change management and facilitation; proficient with estimating, scheduling, programming and risk tools.
  • Experience managing contractors, consultants and advisors in large construction projects with NEC and FIDIC contracts.
  • Excellent presentation, influencing and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills; ability to build relationships and maintain effective networks.
  • Detailed understanding of EPR design and experience.
  • A degree or related qualification in engineering, construction or related field is desirable.
