Food Safety Officer

A Local Authority in the North West (Greater Manchester area) is seeking an experienced Food Safety Officer to support their Environmental Health team on an initial 3-month contract starting in April, with the potential for extension.

This role will focus on delivering a programme of Category C and D Food Hygiene inspections, alongside Food Standards work. The successful candidate will be confident working across both disciplines and able to manage their own workload effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertaking Category C and D food hygiene inspections in line with the Food Law Code of Practice
• Delivering Food Standards interventions and associated enforcement work
• Identifying non-compliance and taking appropriate enforcement action
• Providing advice and guidance to food business operators
• Completing inspection reports and maintaining accurate records
• Supporting the wider Food Safety team where required

Essential Requirements

• Authorised to carry out Category C and D Food Hygiene inspections
• Experience working within a Local Authority Environmental Health/Food Safety team
• Strong knowledge of relevant food safety legislation and the Food Law Code of Practice
• Ability to manage inspections and workload independently
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use
