Company: Argus Media
Apply for the Senior AI Automation Engineer
Location: Greater London
Job Description:

Argus is a fast-growing global B2B media company providing essential information on commodity markets. As a business, we continue to grow and evolve, adding new markets, new services, new delivery options and improved analytical tools.

Job Purpose

The Senior AI Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and operating the AI agents, integrations, and automations that power Argus’ workflow transformation. Working in close partnership with the Product Manager – Workflow Intelligence, you will turn deeply understood business workflows into robust, secure, and scalable agentic systems. You will lead the technical implementation of AI assistants and deterministic automations, ensuring they are reliable in production, safe to operate, and genuinely useful to the teams that rely on them.

This role combines hands on engineering leadership with systems thinking. You will set engineering standards for AI automation, mentor other engineers, collaborate with software development teams across the business, and work closely with Service Desk colleagues to ensure solutions are operable, supportable, and continuously improving. Your work will directly reduce operational friction across Argus, enabling teams to spend less time on manual processes and more time on high value analysis and decision making.

What Will You Be Doing

Delivery & Technical Leadership

  • Design and build AI agents and automations that implement high value business workflows, using Copilot Studio, Power Automate, APIs, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Architect agentic systems with deterministic orchestration, combining LLM based reasoning with rule based flows to ensure reliability, guardrails, and predictable outcomes.
  • Own the technical design of agents, including topic structure, tool invocation, grounding strategy, retrieval configuration, and safety constraints.
  • Establish and evolve engineering standards for AI automation, including prompt design, testing, observability, versioning, and release management.

Collaboration & Operating Model

  • Partner closely with the Product Manager – Workflow Intelligence to translate documented workflows and product intent into high quality technical solutions.
  • Act as a technical authority and advisor to software engineers on other teams when AI agents or automations integrate with their systems.
  • Collaborate with Service Desk and support teams to ensure automations are supportable, monitored, and well understood in day to day operations.
  • Reduce delivery friction by proactively resolving technical ambiguity and designing solutions that minimise rework and operational risk.

People Leadership & Enablement

  • Line manage and mentor an AI Automation Engineer, providing technical guidance, code/prompt reviews, and support for professional development.
  • Support the development of shared patterns, reusable components, and documentation to raise the overall quality and velocity of AI automation delivery.
  • Contribute to a culture of disciplined experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement.

Quality, Reliability & Measurement

  • Define and own testing strategies for AI agents, including scenario based tests, regression suites, offline evaluations, and postlaunch telemetry.
  • Instrument solutions with observability and metrics to monitor usage, failures, latency, and business impact.
  • Lead iterative improvement based on real world performance, user feedback, and operational signals.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience designing and delivering AI agents or assistants in Copilot Studio or equivalent platforms, including prompt design and topic/action architecture.
  • Strong expertise in Power Automate and API based integrations, orchestrating deterministic workflows around LLM driven components.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise integration patterns, including authentication (OAuth, Graph), RBAC, secrets management, rate limiting, pagination, and webhooks.
  • Experience building production grade AI systems, with a strong focus on reliability, security, and operational robustness.
  • Demonstrated discipline in testing and observability for AI features, including evaluation datasets, failure analysis, and telemetry driven iteration.
  • Solid software engineering foundations, including version control, CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and environment management.
  • Ability to interpret real business workflows and translate them into secure, maintainable technical implementations.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation skills.

Desirable

  • Experience integrating Copilot plugins, Microsoft Graph connectors, or similar AI enabled enterprise workflows.
  • Background in SaaS platform integration (e.g. Salesforce, Workday, Greenhouse) and Microsoft 365 ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with advanced LLM evaluation techniques, such as prompt A/B testing, guardrail tuning, or red teaming.
  • Prior experience mentoring or line managing engineers.
  • Experience working on internal tools or operational platforms, rather than purely customer facing products.
