Job Description:

Senior Data Engineer – Global Multi‑Asset Hedge Fund – London – Up to £350k TC

A top‑tier global multi‑asset hedge fund is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help re‑shape how the firm uses data to take risk across global markets. This is not a back‑office reporting role: you’ll sit close to the front office, owning the datasets, pipelines and architecture that macro and multi‑asset trading teams depend on every day.

Why this role is interesting

  • You’ll be joining as the firm upgrades its foundational data platform for the “next phase” of growth – plenty of greenfield design, not just incremental tweaks.
  • The mandate spans all major asset classes, so the data you build will power everything from macro views to security‑level trade ideas.
  • You’ll be the person PMs, quants and risk teams turn to when they want to understand what’s really going on in the data.

What you’ll actually do

  • Work directly with front‑office teams to scope new data needs and turn them into robust, well‑designed datasets and pipelines.
  • Explore and onboard new vendor and alternative datasets; profile, clean and shape them so they’re usable for research and trading.
  • Design and implement best‑practice data architecture and automation for the firm’s core data platform.
  • Build out data quality monitoring and rules with end‑users, so they can trust the numbers driving their decisions.
  • Curate metadata and the data catalogue so that finding and understanding data is fast and painless across the firm.

What they’re looking for

  • 10+ years’ experience in buyside data engineering or a similar data‑specialist role, with solid markets intuition.
  • Deep hands‑on skills in SQL and Python, plus real experience in data wrangling, cleaning and architecture.
  • Experience with Spark (Databricks a plus), and comfort working with both in‑house systems and vendor tools.
  • Someone who is detail‑obsessed, intellectually curious, and happy to own complex problems end‑to‑end with minimal oversight.
  • Strong communicator who can explain gnarly data issues to non‑specialists and enjoys collaborating across investment and technology teams.

What you get

You’ll join a highly collegiate, research‑driven environment where macro and micro views, trading and data engineering are tightly integrated. Expect genuine ownership over business‑critical data, direct interaction with senior investors, strong performance‑linked compensation, and a culture that invests heavily in learning, wellbeing and long‑term career growth.
