TLTP is recruiting a Special needs Teacher with extensive experience in teaching Functional Skills to GCSE and low‑level learners. This secondary school in Newham, East London, caters for children with SEBD, ASD and SEMH.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Functional Skills to secondary and low‑level learners.
  • Oversee the progress of all pupils in the specialist area.
  • Coordinate a team of Therapeutic Education Practitioners (Learning Mentors) and provide direct teaching time to meet the needs of class groups and pupils.
  • Look at pupils holistically, drawing on a wide range of social care and teaching strategies to meet pupil needs, promote interest, and ensure the safety and well‑being of pupils.
  • Deliver pupil‑focused, creative lessons according to an agreed timetable, including cover lessons when necessary.
  • Support class teachers with the delivery of Functional Skills to KS2‑KS3.
  • Provide opportunities for pupils to experience and understand English subjects in a range of contexts.
  • Differentiates the National Curriculum to meet the needs of ASC/SEMH pupils and devises Individual Education, Behaviour and Integration Plans (IEBIP) with SMART targets and actions.
  • Help identify pupils in need of intervention, work in consultation with the SLT, PCC, Clinical team and Learning Mentors, and support the provision and monitoring of one‑to‑one and small‑group programmes.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning & Skills (QTLS).
  • Experience as a Functional Skill Teacher with a proven record of exceptional progress.
  • Experience of leading a subject area and working within a multi‑disciplinary classroom team.
  • Strong behaviour‑management skills for SEMH/ASD/EBD pupils.
  • A calm demeanour and the ability to maintain a sense of humour under pressure.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and the development of both yourself and your pupils.
  • Secondary or primary teaching experience.
