We have an incredible fixed term contract opportunity to join us here at Standard Life as a Business Finance Analyst to join our Expenses Team in Retirement Solutions & Asset Management.

Job Type: Fixed Term contract until 31st Dec 2026

Location: This role could be based in our Edinburgh, Telford or Birmingham office with time spent working in the office and at home.

Salary and benefits: Up to £40,000 depending on experience, plus an indicative bonus range of 8-16%, private medical cover, 38 days annual leave, excellent pension, 12x salary life assurance, career breaks, income protection, 3x volunteering days and much more.

The role

We’re looking for a proactive, detail-driven Finance Analyst to support full end-to-end expense management across our Retirement Solutions and Asset Management business area. Working closely with Finance Business Partners, you’ll ensure strong cost control across People, Non-People, and Change-related expenditure by delivering an accurate and efficient month-end process.

  • Prepare and post journals, validate and code transactions, and manage purchase orders.
  • Execute a structured month-end close, providing ad hoc analysis to support decision-making.
  • Lead the monthly resource forum, tracking recruitment activity, analysing resourcing needs, and ensuring governance across all hiring related spend.
  • Act as a key liaison for supplier queries, PO requisitions, and cost allocations across multiple business areas.
  • Analyse supplier expenditure to identify trends, risks, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Produce high-quality reporting packs, cost analysis, and other financial outputs.
  • Maintain clear process documentation, business cases, and controls evidence.
  • Support continuous improvement of finance processes and reporting tools.

Qualifications

  • Strong confidence operating autonomously, with a proactive approach to taking ownership.
  • Well-developed financial control instincts and an awareness of risk.
  • High standard of accuracy, with excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Experience in expense accounting and financial data analysis, ideally within a month-end environment.
  • High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; comfortable working with financial systems and MI tools.
  • Strong analytical ability, communication skills, and stakeholder management capability.
