Cloud Engineer

A research focused engineering organisation operating at serious compute scale is investing further in how application workloads are delivered and run in AWS.

The team sits between platform and application engineering, making sure teams can ship quickly while still operating inside strong security, governance, and operational guardrails.

This is a hands‑on role for someone who has owned multi-account AWS environments in production, not just built the foundations underneath them.

Key responsibilities

• Own the AWS account structure and shared services layer, shaping how the platform supports fast‑moving engineering teams without cutting corners on security or compliance
• Set the standard for how risk and visibility are handled at the platform level, controls, alerting, and tooling that get used because they’re well designed
• Act as the connective tissue between application engineers, security, and architecture, steering how cloud workloads get built
• Write the automation and infrastructure patterns that make doing things the right way the default, not the exception

What you’ll need

• Deep understanding of how AWS handles identity, network boundaries, and access control
• Strong Terraform and Python skills

You will influence how production services are delivered and operated across the estate. The environment is technically demanding, widely used, and highly visible internally.
