The Information Governance Lead is responsible for ensuring that the organisation complies with regulatory and legal frameworks related to data privacy, information management, and security. This role serves as the central point for developing, implementing, and managing policies and strategies that ensure data is handled in a secure, compliant, and efficient manner.

You will work closely with, and provide operational support to, the Head of Knowledge, Information Management and Data Protection Officer, contributing to enterprise‑wide Knowledge Management, Information Management, Information Governance and Data Protection activities and undertaking delegated duties as required.

You will work collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure organisational standards across knowledge management, information management, information governance and data protection are consistently embedded and applied across the business.

Please note – This role operates on a remote/hybrid basis, with three days of remote working and two days based at our Warrington office each week.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Support the ongoing maintenance and operational implementation of the organisation’s Knowledge Management, Information Management, Information Governance and Data Protection frameworks, ensuring consistent application across the organisation.
  • Ensure the organisation is fully compliant with UK GDPR, relevant ISO standards, the Data Protection Act 2018, and other relevant legislation.
  • Support the Head of Knowledge, Information Management and DPO with organisation‑wide information governance, data protection and knowledge management activities, including contributing to cross‑functional programmes and assurance work.
  • Identify and evaluate risks related to data privacy, good information governance, and data usage.
  • Manage the response to data breaches or privacy incidents, ensuring appropriate investigations, containment, and support reporting to relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Support enterprise‑level audits of information governance processes, identify areas for improvement, and provide regular compliance reports to senior leadership.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of organisation‑wide policies, procedures and retention schedules to ensure alignment with corporate knowledge and information standards. Design and deliver training programmes on information governance, data protection, and privacy to ensure staff across the organisation understand their responsibilities and the importance of compliance.
  • Support GBE‑N subsidiaries and Development Companies in their formation stages with appropriate policy and process support, ensuring effective handover as the business develop their own capabilities.
  • Contribute to embedding knowledge management practices across GBE‑N, including knowledge capture, knowledge sharing, document management and information lifecycle governance, aligned with the organisation’s KM strategy.
  • Measure the success of the information governance program and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to demonstrate the impact on organisational performance.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

  • Strong understanding of UK data protection laws, including UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Proven experience in information governance and data protection, or compliance roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing and supporting the operation of data protection and information governance frameworks within digital environments, ensuring compliance and effective application. Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cultural change within the organisation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Familiarity with information governance technologies and platforms, including content management systems, collaboration tools, and learning management systems. Awareness of knowledge management principles, ISO 30401‑aligned practices, organisational learning approaches and information lifecycle management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Governance, Law, Data Management, or a related field or demonstrable professional experience.
  • Professional certifications in data protection (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM) or information security (e.g., ISO 27001) are desirable.
