We are seeking a keen and motivated person to join our busy, friendly and dedicated team, as a Circular Economy Projects Officer
About Us
Oxfordshire County Council’s small but effective waste strategy team is responsible for:
- Delivering externally funded projects to reduce waste and increase recycling
- Creating and implementing waste reduction initiatives
- Delivering innovative behaviour change communications
The team works closely with our operational Waste Management Team who are responsible for waste disposal contracts and our current network of seven HWRCs. The Waste Strategy team is also the first point of contact for the award-winning Oxfordshire Community Action Groups.
About the Role
We want to be at the forefront of a circular economy, trialling new initiatives and seeking ways to prevent waste entering our systems. We need you to help our county achieve this by:
- Acting on topical issues such as plastics and food waste
- Minimising the amount of waste entering our household waste systems
- Working in close collaboration with our waste collection authorities
We have signed up to an ambitious Joint Municipal Waste Management Strategy (Oxfordshire’s Resources and Waste Strategy 2018- 2027) together with our district colleagues, which sets some challenging targets for waste reduction and recycling. This is an exciting time of high economic and housing growth and as one of the top performing areas for recycling and waste minimisation, our challenges include working in partnership to find innovative ways to keep improving and maximise the opportunities that Local Government Reorganisation brings.
About you
We are looking for a natural collaborator, who will be happy working with a range of different partners such as Oxfordshire’s district councils and our Community Action Groups to develop funding bids and deliver waste reduction and recycling projects across different waste streams.
You will also be seeking out best practice on how we can drive behaviour change on waste including via social media.
