We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Director (Cost Control) to join our busy and expanding, Defence team, who are undertaking a range of Controls & Performance duties on several high‑profile Infrastructure Projects/Programmes. This will be to work on growing our cost capability in the Southwest. Additionally, this role will provide the opportunity to innovate, collaborate and learn from our experienced and award‑winning Cost Control community and wider extensive Controls and Performance Network.
Key Deliverables
Working alongside project delivery teams as part of a wider cost control team and leading experienced cost professionals, responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead and develop teams of Cost Control professionals on complex client projects or programmes.
- Drive continuous improvement in cost control (and interfacing project controls) processes to create efficiency and increasing benefits to our clients.
- Develop and maintain relationships with interfacing disciplines including, but not limited to, Finance, Commercial and Project Managers to ensure alignment of project information.
- Drive the implementation, embed and roll‑out of any identified changes to cost control processes.
- Appropriately select, implement, administer, and maintain cost control systems to meet client requirements.
- Mentor the wider Turner & Townsend Cost Controller team, providing support and guidance where required.
- Provide subject matter advice and manage the development of reporting tracking tools, where required, and generate Cost reports on a regular basis, including evaluation of earned value.
- Define how to build and assure project forecast to account for all residual works in the Estimate to Complete (ETC) and the development of the Estimate at Completion (EAC) incorporating required supply chain information.
- Provide Subject Matter Expertise for Turner & Townend and the client in all aspects of Cost Control.
- Present / provide performance recovery recommendations to relevant stakeholders and senior management to support effective decision making.
- Support the development of Turner & Townsend Cost Control training material.
- Lead on the preparation and presentation of Communities of Practice/Interest and Knowledge Shares.
- Support the National Cost Control Lead in delivering Cost Control nationally.
- Support Turner & Townsend’s recruitment activities to grow and develop the project controls capability.
Qualifications
Essential
- Extensive experience in a Lead Cost Control role with management responsibility.
- Extensive experience of working within a project environment.
- An intermediate to advanced level of Earned Value Management (EVM) understanding.
- Confidence and ability to critically challenge.
- Practical experience of using MS Excel and other MS applications.
- A good understanding of how other aspects of Controls & Performance (Scheduling, Risk Management, Reporting, Change Control) interact with Cost Control.
- Demonstratable team leadership experience.
- Experience in implementing Cost Control processes and procedures.
- A good and clear understanding of the differences between Cost Control and Finance.
Desirable
- Familiarity with at least one Cost Control tool.
- Familiarity with NEC contracts.
- Working in a Defence environment.
- A relevant Cost Control qualification, such as the Controls & Skills Authority.
- A relevant Project Controls qualification, such as ECITB, APM.
