Senior Full Stack Engineer | London | Hybrid | Tech4Good
Location: London (hybrid, minimum 2 days in office)
Salary: £80,000 – £90,000 + shares + benefits
Tech stack:
- Python (Django or Flask or FastAPI) – considering Engineers with a strong background in web development from any backend language
- React
- AWS
This is a role built around ownership in the truest sense. Not in the overused job spec way, but in the sense that one person stepping in here will directly influence how this company scales over the next few years.
We’re working with a company operating at the intersection of science, operations, and technology, building systems that underpin large scale, real world environmental projects. The product is not a layer on top of the business. It is the thing that enables it to function, standardise, and grow.
Right now, progress is being constrained by engineering bandwidth. This hire unlocks that.
What you’ll be doing
You will take responsibility for a core domain within the platform, working from first principles to understand how things operate today and where they break down at scale. From there, you will design and build solutions that move the business forward in a meaningful way.
That means working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, including those operating in very different environments to a typical London tech office, and translating real world complexity into simple, effective systems.
You will be trusted to make decisions, set direction within your domain, and deliver end to end. There is support around you, but not layers of process or people slowing things down.
What they’re looking for
- Take ownership of a core domain within the platform, understanding how it works today and where it breaks at scale
- Design and build solutions from first principles that meaningfully move the business forward
- Work closely with stakeholders across the organisation, including teams operating outside a typical tech office environment
- Translate real world complexity into simple, scalable, and effective systems
- Set direction within your domain, making decisions with a high degree of autonomy
- Deliver end to end, from problem definition through to production
- Operate with support from the team, without heavy process or unnecessary layers slowing you down
You will likely have:
- Solid commercial experience in building and shipping software in production environments
- Experience working across the stack, with a leaning towards backend systems
- Strong fundamentals that translate across languages and frameworks
- The ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non technical people
- A pragmatic mindset, with a focus on getting things working in the real world rather than chasing perfection
The stack is broadly Python, React, and AWS, but the emphasis is on capability rather than specific tools.
The impact here is tangible! The systems you build directly support projects happening on the ground, and you will have the opportunity to see that first hand through occasional travel.
The team is small, ambitious, and operating with a high level of trust and autonomy. There is funding in place, a clear mission, and plenty of room to shape how things are done.
