Job Summary
The Director of Engineering is a key leadership role at the intersection of technical depth, people management, and product partnership. At Partnerize, we operate a high‑scale platform processing over a billion daily events. You will oversee multiple cross‑functional engineering teams through Engineering Managers, driving strategy and execution to ensure high throughput, resilience, and observability, while serving as a technical authority guiding architecture decisions and collaborating closely with Product.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Engineering Managers and Agile Delivery Leads, owning delivery, quality, and system reliability.
- Serve as technical authority shaping architecture of backend and platform systems, especially high‑concurrency event‑driven systems.
- Collaborate with Product leaders to shape roadmaps and balance speed against scalability and technical debt.
- Develop and maintain processes and best practices for distributed systems and APIs.
- Own technical outcomes and system health, ensuring infrastructure design for resilience and observability.
- Mentor Engineering Managers and senior engineers, strengthening technical and leadership capabilities.
- Drive a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement aligned with organizational goals.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience managing multiple engineering teams and other managers in a fast‑paced, product‑led environment.
- Strong background in backend or platform engineering with ability to design and critique distributed systems at scale.
- Experience with event‑driven architecture, real‑time data processing, and making clear technical decisions under ambiguity.
- Track record of partnering with Product and stakeholders at all levels to balance performance, reliability, and cost.
- Ability to translate between high‑level strategy and low‑level technical detail.
- Excellent communication skills to explain complex trade‑offs clearly.
Desired Qualifications & Competencies
- Experience personally designing systems that scale and identifying breaking points.
- Ability to challenge engineers or stakeholders and articulate technical or business reasoning.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- Proficiency in Agile, Lean, TDD, CI/CD, DDD practices.
