Our client delivers mechanical, electrical, and public health (MEP) engineering solutions, from design through to installation and commissioning. They play a critical role in delivering complex, high-value projects, with a strong focus on innovation, digital engineering, and low-carbon solutions.

Role Purpose

The Business Development Director will lead the growth of our clients portfolio, securing major projects and frameworks while strengthening relationships with key clients, consultants, and main contractors.

The role will focus on early-stage engagement, solution-led selling, and positioning our client as a preferred engineering partner, particularly for complex and technically demanding projects.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Growth & Market Positioning

  • Develop and deliver a targeted business development strategy
  • Identify and prioritise opportunities across key sectors
  • Position our client as a leader in – Offsite manufacturing (DfMA), Digital engineering / BIM-enabled delivery, Low-carbon and energy-efficient building solutions

Client & Contractor Engagement

  • Build and maintain senior relationships with – Tier 1 Main Contractors, Developers and end clients, and Consultants and design teams
  • Engage at pre-construction and concept stage to influence design and specification
  • Promote our clients ability to deliver integrated design-and-build engineering solutions

Work Winning & Pipeline Development

  • Lead the development of a high-quality pipeline of major MEP projects
  • Oversee bids, tenders, and framework submissions, ensuring – Strong technical and commercial propositions and Clear articulation of value (innovation, cost certainty, programme efficiency)
  • Drive win strategies for complex, multi-million-pound opportunities

Collaboration with Engineering & Delivery Teams

  • Work closely with – Pre-construction and estimating teams, Design and engineering specialists and Offsite manufacturing facilities
  • Ensure solutions are practical, buildable, and aligned to client needs
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement in engineering delivery

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and develop the business development and pre-construction teams
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance
  • Provide coaching and direction on strategic pursuits and key bids

Commercial & Financial Accountability

  • Deliver against revenue, margin, and order book targets
  • Ensure robust commercial governance and risk management in all pursuits
  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning for the business

Key Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in business development leadership within MEP / building services engineering
  • Strong track record of securing large-scale construction or engineering projects
  • Established network across:
  • Tier 1 contractors
  • Consultants and developers
  • Deep understanding of:
  • Design & build project delivery
  • Pre-construction and bid processes
  • Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills

Desirable

  • Experience with offsite manufacturing / DfMA approaches
  • Knowledge of digital engineering (BIM, digital twins)
  • Exposure to net zero carbon and sustainable building solutions
  • Familiarity with UK frameworks (e.g. NHS, Crown Commercial Service)
