Applied Automation Engineer – 12 month FTC (London, Hybrid) – £60,000 to £100,000 plus bonus and benefits

This is a high impact opportunity to take ownership of a business‑critical automation project within a lean, collaborative data environment. You will play a key role in replacing long‑standing manual processes with a robust, scalable reporting and calculation platform, providing real visibility across senior leadership and shaping how data and automation are done going forward.

The Company

They are a specialist investment organisation operating in the alternative assets space, with a long‑established track record and a global footprint. The business is deliberately small and flat, built around trust, low ego, and direct access to decision makers. Collaboration is central to how they work, with teams sitting close to the commercial problem and empowered to deliver meaningful change.

The Role

As an Applied Automation Engineer you will be responsible for the end‑to‑end delivery of a fully automated LAV and NAV calculation system used across a diverse investment portfolio. This is a fixed‑term role created to deliver a specific, high‑value project, with strong potential to extend or convert based on success.

  • Designing and building automated data ingestion pipelines for structured and unstructured sources, including APIs, files, and reports
  • Implementing and maintaining SQL‑based data models to support complex financial calculations
  • Owning the full delivery lifecycle, from requirements through to production deployment
  • Working closely with data science, engineering, and business stakeholders to ensure outputs are accurate, robust, and fit for purpose
  • Creating a platform designed for longevity, with future potential for AI or agent‑based enhancements

Your Skills and Experience

  • Strong commercial experience building production‑grade systems using Python and SQL
  • Proven ability to automate manual or legacy processes end to end
  • Solid understanding of data workflows, APIs, and system integration
  • Experience working with CI and CD practices in a collaborative engineering environment
  • Strong mathematical and logical problem‑solving capability
  • Comfortable working close to the business and explaining technical concepts clearly
  • Exposure to financial services, AI tooling, FastAPI, or agentic approaches is beneficial but not essential

What They Offer

  • Salary between £60,000 and £100,000, with most hires landing around the mid‑range
  • Competitive discretionary bonus with a strong historical track record of payout
  • Hybrid working model with a balance of office collaboration and home working
  • A high‑visibility role with genuine influence over data and automation strategy
  • Opportunity for contract extension or permanent conversion following the initial term
  • Please note, candidates must have the right to work in the UK as visa sponsorship is not available.
