Control Systems Engineer – Contract (Outside IR35) – Essex

Location: Essex (On-site, 5 days per week)

Duration: 12 months (with potential extension)

Rate: Negotiable

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Control Systems Engineer to join our client on a 12-month contract based in Essex. This is an excellent opportunity to work on cutting-edge automation projects in a hands-on, fully on-site role.

The Role

As a Control Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and delivery of advanced automation solutions. You will be involved across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to commissioning, ensuring high-quality and innovative engineering outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and program PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems to a high standard
  • Produce technical documentation including manuals, test procedures, and system specifications
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams, providing technical expertise and support
  • Contribute to the development of new products and system improvements
  • Follow and support project timelines set by the Systems Engineering Manager
  • Assist with troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning activities

Requirements

  • Strong experience with PLC programming (IEC 61131-3 languages preferred)
  • Proven expertise in SCADA systems and industrial automation
  • Solid understanding of control systems and electrical integration
  • Ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings
  • Experience with CAD tools such as Visio or E-Plan Electric P8
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, CANbus, Profibus)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
