Liverpool Robotic Uro-Oncology Fellowship

The post is accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is designed as a one‑year fellowship with the possibility of a second year extension. It offers extended clinical experience in complex urological surgery, providing broad exposure to both minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. Fellows will gain the volume of training needed to perform open and minimally invasive surgery competently and to develop skills beyond those envisaged in the current SAC approved curriculum.

Main duties

The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of the unit’s clinical work, including outpatient clinics, diagnostic procedures, multi‑disciplinary team meetings, day‑case and inpatient operating, emergency care and ward rounds. All clinical activities will be supervised by consultant urologists.

The successful candidate will also contribute to the Urology middle‑grade on‑call rota based at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, which operates a 1:12 schedule: weekdays daytime cover Monday to Friday 8 am–5 pm, individual nights overnight Monday to Friday 5 pm–8 am, and weekend cover Saturday or Sunday 8 am–8 am.

  • Tuesday: 09:30‑12:30 & 13:30‑17:30 – Robotic Theatre at RLH
  • Wednesday: 09:00‑13:00 & 13:30‑17:30 – Robotic Theatre (alternate week) at RLH
  • Thursday: 09:00‑13:00 & 13:30‑17:00 – Robotic Theatre at RLH
  • Friday: 08:30‑12:30 & 13:00‑17:00 – OPD / Robotic Theatre (alternate week) at RLH
  • Specialist and local multi‑disciplinary team meetings as scheduled.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCS or equivalent
  • Further higher degree (MD or PhD)

Experience and Knowledge

  • Core surgical training or equivalent
  • Competent in basic IT skills and clinical sub‑specialty education and training
  • Thorough knowledge of medical audit, education, current best practice, and clinical governance
  • Postgraduate training in Urology at SpR level
  • FRCS (Urology) or equivalent
  • Experience in diagnosing and treating urological disorders
  • Ability to manage common urological emergencies

Management and Administrative

  • Ability to lead, communicate, liaise and negotiate with others
  • Willingness to support the efficient and smooth running of the specialist service
  • Ability to motivate, innovate and support staff of all disciplines

Teaching and Training

  • Commitment to continuing medical education
  • Experience supervising foundation‑year trainees or equivalent
  • Ability to organise and participate in teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Experience demonstrating clinical procedures and techniques to other healthcare professionals

Research, Audit and Clinical Governance

  • Ability to undertake the complete audit cycle and multidisciplinary audit
  • Demonstrable experience in clinical research and application of research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues and interest in research methodology
  • Relevant publications in peer‑reviewed journals

Salary: £65,048 to £73,992 per annum (plus on‑call remuneration).
