The Role

Reporting to the IT Security Manager, the post holder will be responsible for identification, mitigation, response and reporting on cyber security incidents, as part of a small IT Security Team, which will include some out of hours work. You will make a significant contribution to the IT security posture of the University, including the identification and implementation of new protective technologies, maintaining cyber awareness for staff, students and other key stakeholders, and supporting the University’s cloud migration programme. The postholder will also be responsible for vulnerability management for cloud and on-premise systems.

Responsibilities

  • Identification, mitigation, response and reporting on cyber security incidents
  • Implementation of new protective technologies
  • Maintaining cyber awareness for staff, students and other key stakeholders
  • Supporting the University’s cloud migration programme
  • Vulnerability management for cloud and on-premise systems
  • Providing or supporting IT Services in an IT service environment
  • Resolving security or infrastructure IT incidents

Qualifications

  • Good first‑degree standard in a technical discipline or equivalent experience
  • Highly motivated, substantial experience in a technical or service environment
  • Extensive experience resolving security or infrastructure IT incidents
  • Extensive knowledge of security infrastructure, solutions and operation including penetration testing and network intrusion detection
  • Knowledge of security issues applicable to Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Linux operating systems, network infrastructure, email and cloud technologies
  • Knowledge of IT security issues and vulnerabilities with the ability to adapt to changes and keep up with new technologies using own initiative
  • Patient, level‑headed disposition and ability to work flexibly under pressure

  • Experience of working in Higher Education
